Erchonia® GVL Laser®

The only laser cleared for pain and inflammation together.

The GVL combines green (520nm) and violet (405nm) wavelengths in a cordless handheld device — the first and only LLLT device FDA cleared for simultaneously treating pain and inflammation in a single session.

How it works

Low-level laser therapy & the electron transport chain.

Erchonia uses low-level lasers in the visible light spectrum. Visible light photons match the energy required to elevate electrons to higher energy states — triggering the cellular reactions that produce ATP, the body's primary energy currency.

Electron Transport Chain diagram

The Electron Transport Chain

The ETC is a series of four protein complexes that create an electrochemical gradient, leading to ATP production via oxidative phosphorylation. It occurs in the mitochondria and is vital for cellular life.

Electron flow starts at complexes 1, 2, 3 and 4 before producing ATP at complex 5 (ATP synthase). When flow is disrupted — like a "kink in the hose" — the laser targets these complexes to restore it.

This process cannot occur with infrared lasers, which lack the electron volts required to influence any complex. Only visible-light wavelengths — green, violet, and red — can produce this photochemical effect.

520nm Green · Anti-inflammatory

Reduces pain & inflammation

The green wavelength is the first and only in laser therapy to stimulate Complex 3 of the ETC — a critical step that no other wavelength can reach. This makes it uniquely effective for reducing pain, inflammation, and restoring range of motion in a single session. It also supports collagen production and cellular repair.

405nm Violet · Antimicrobial

Antimicrobial & regenerative

The violet wavelength stimulates Complexes 1 and 2 of the ETC. It has proven antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, supports wound healing, and promotes tissue regeneration — broadening the range of conditions the GVL can address beyond standard pain management.

Which ETC complexes does the GVL stimulate?

I Violet (405nm)
II Violet (405nm)
III Green (520nm) only
IV Red 635nm only
V ATP synthase
Green 520nm Violet 405nm Not stimulated by GVL
The GVL advantage

Why the GVL stands apart.

Backed by Level 1 double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled, multi-site clinical trials — the most rigorous research standard in medicine.

Only FDA-cleared for pain + inflammation simultaneouslyNo other LLLT device holds FDA Market Clearance for treating both pain and inflammation in a single session.

Green wavelength — a first in laser therapyThe 520nm green beam is the only wavelength that stimulates Complex III of the ETC. No red, violet, or infrared device can replicate this.

Cordless, handheld & portableRechargeable lithium-ion battery in a machined billet aluminium enclosure. Under 1 lb. Easy to use across multiple treatment rooms.

100 customisable memory channelsPlus 1 preset protocol. Simple full-colour TFT touchscreen interface with constant wave (CW) and pulsed (Hz) modulation.

Zero pain, zero heat, zero side effectsCold laser — patients feel nothing during treatment. No reported side effects and no risk of tissue burns or drug interactions.

Short sessions, broad applicability10–30 minute treatments that can be administered as a standalone therapy or adjunct — expanding the conditions your clinic can address.

Power and penetration myth chart
Setting the record straight

The power & penetration myth.

One of the biggest misconceptions in laser therapy is that higher-powered lasers with longer wavelengths penetrate deeper and deliver better results. This claim is not supported by research, clinical data, or physics — and in practice, high-powered lasers can be dangerous when misapplied.

The primary mechanism of low-level laser therapy is photochemical — it is the match between photon energy (eV) and molecular electron orbits that matters, not raw power output.

Infrared lasers do not possess the requisite electron volts to influence any complex in the electron transport chain. Only visible light wavelengths (green, violet, red) can drive the photochemical reactions needed for therapeutic effect.

Clinical study LED vs laser comparison
Evidence-based

True lasers outperform LEDs. Every time.

Erchonia always uses LEDs as the placebo device in its randomised, double-blind, multi-center, placebo-controlled clinical trials. This is deliberate — it directly proves the efficacy of true cold lasers over the cheaper LED devices that flood the market.

Don't devalue your practice with devices that can't replicate the photochemical mechanism of a true laser. Erchonia holds 22 of the 25 FDA clearances ever granted to Low-Level Laser Therapy devices.

The GVL's efficacy is proven by multiple Level 1 studies — the highest standard of clinical evidence, using double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled, multi-site methodology.
